First half way nice day in a VERY long time. Sunny, temps in the low 60's...
It was a cold ride until mid-morning and very cold at the higher elevations.
But by the time I got to Cougar in midday, it was almost warm and pleasant out.
I was surprised that the Wind River Highway was open from Carson to McClellan
and all the way to Cougar although the snow was 20 feet high on the side of the road
in some places. And of course all of the other roads were closed due to snow. I tried
to get up to Lava Canyon but the snow was too deep the last several miles. Still..
it was a nice day and a nice ride and the Forest Roads out by Mount Saint Helens
were mostly deserted.

A Frosty Mount Saint Helens
It doesn't look it from this picture but the entrance to the McClellan Viewpoint
was pretty dicey. That snow is over a foot deep... folded the floorboards up so no
rear brake going downhill...
I always liked this view but never took the time to stop and take pictures until now.
This is in the Swift Reservoir area before you get to Yale Lake.
Pretty good food and nice people at the Lone Fir Cafe. Much better than the
greasy spoon across the street, IMHO. This is where we will be registering for our
Mount Saint Helens hike to the crater rim this Summer.
